HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Maria Montessori challenged assumptions about what was possible for the children she worked with. By creating an engaging environment that fostered interaction and meaningful activity, the undisciplined and illiterate children of Montessori’s first Casa dei Bambini began to thrive and learn in ways that educators at the time thought was not possible.

Today, Montessori’s legacy continues by challenging assumptions about what is possible for persons with dementia. Through decades of applied research and practice, the Montessori Inspired Lifestyle® for persons with dementia rests on seven tenets.

Resident Care
At Odd Fellows we have embraced the Montessori inspired lifestyle that strives to bring a sense of purpose and meaning to residents in residential care settings. We focus on the development of independence, choice, and self-fulfillment of the individual. We strive to create a positive atmosphere while providing a variety of activities that promote well-being, physical health, and mental health. Residents are encouraged to participate in decisions that involve their daily lives, promote their interests, and help them lead an active, meaningful life. The Montessori inspired lifestyle in long-term care emphasizes the importance of socialization and communication with others, as well as providing opportunities for the development of life skills.

Recreation
The recreation department operates seven days a week. Activities are posted and announced each day. Within the first few days of your admission to the Home, the Recreation Director will meet with you to discuss your interests and hobbies. We invite your family members to take part in activities and encourage their involvement

Food Services
Eating a balanced diet is crucial for physical and mental well-being. It supplies the body with necessary nutrients and lowers the risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and obesity. Include fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Limit processed and fast foods, sugary drinks, and high-fat foods. Practice good habits like portion control and mindful eating.
