OUR FAMILIES

Visitors
Visitors are welcome at any time. We encourage families and friends to visit often and recommend family outings. We do ask that you sign the board across from the nurses station and note time when a resident is leaving the building. If you are on any medications, ask the nurse in charge for it before leaving.

Comments / Concerns
If at any time you or your family have any questions or concerns regarding your care, please contact the Director of Care, Rhonda Mason directly at 902-486-5492 x24 or email rhonda.mason@mofh.ca. Concern/complaint forms are located at the front entrance. These forms can be deposited in the suggestion box which is also located in the main entrance. We will make every effort to see that your concerns are dealt with in a timely manner.

PRE-ADMISSION

All admissions to nursing homes in Nova Scotia are facilitated through the Continuing Care Single Entry Access. To begin the process, please contact the Single Entry Access at 1-800-225-7225. A Care Coordinator will visit an individual’s home and conduct a full assessment which will be used to determine the supports he/she needs. The waiting lists for Long Term Care facilities are managed by the Department of Health and Wellness and can be viewed at https://waittimes.novascotia.ca/ Information on the cost of entering a long term care home can be obtained from the Department of Health (https://novascotia.ca/dhw/ccs/long-term-care.asp).

ADDITIONAL SERVICES PROVIDED

Hairdressing
A hair salon is available for Residents and is located at the front main entrance. The staff can assist you to your appointment. Prices are posted in the hair salon.

Cable TV
You can have cable hook-up in your room for a monthly charge. Please contact the office.

Phone Intallation
You can have your own phone installed in your room. It is recommended that you or your family make these arrangements. If this is not possible, please notify the office. There are associated costs for this service.

Mail
There is a box for mail deposit at the main office at the Home. Stamps may be purchased at the office from Monday to Friday. All mail will be distributed to residents.

Valuables
The Home cannot be responsible for any valuables or money left in your room. Please leave with your family or contact the office.

Laundry
Laundry is picked up each morning and returned the following morning. 

Fire Drill
Fire drills take place monthly and the fire drill procedure is reviewed monthly.

Resident Call System
There is a call button located on the wall beside each resident bed and in each bathroom and in all public areas throughout the Home. Just by pressing this button, the nurse will be summoned.

Doctor Choice and Visits
The medical advisor for the Home visits every Tuesday. Residents can keep their own family physician if they choose. Please discuss this with the Director of Care.

Board / Bill Payments
Payment for accommodations can be made in the office. Resident’s daily accommodation charges are set by the Department of Seniors and Long Term Care upon submission and review of your Income tax assessment each year. Each month a statement is prepared which outlines the cost for the month.

Resident / Family Council
Resident council meetings are held each month. The date and time of the meetings are posted on monthly calendars located across from the main nurses station. The meetings are chaired by the Resident Council President and the Recreation Director. The purpose of the council is to provide you with an opportunity to express any concerns or suggestions you may have regarding the facility and / or your care. Menu planning and dish selections are also discussed during these monthly meetings. Any department head may be invited to the meeting when requested. Appointments The Nursing Department arranges for medical tests and appointments. It is recommended that the family accompany you for appointments. If this is not possible, a staff person may be assigned. There will be a charge for staff accompaniment for an appointment. An appointment form noting your medical problems and medications must be obtained from the nurse in charge before each appointment.

Pop Machine
There is a pop machine situated in the front entry of the Home.

Resident Rooms
All resident rooms are single occupancy with a small number of rooms with shared washrooms and connecting doorways to allow spousal suites. 

Special Care Unit
A fifteen bed unit with single rooms and washrooms is specific for residents affected by Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementia. Residents meeting identified and specific criteria are admitted to this unit.

Family / Rebekah Room
An overnight guest room is available for family or Odd Fellow and Rebekah Lodge members by advance booking. Contact the Business Office at 902-485-5492 x21.

Community Events
For your information community groups are welcome to gather in the Senior Activity Centre. Advance notice is required.  Please contact the Business Office at 902-485-5492 x21.
