About Us
Mission Statement
To provide quality nursing home care and respite care services to individuals, adhering to the following values.
Values
In keeping with the original purpose of the Maritime Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, we:
- Respect the individual, their privacy, belongings and loved ones.
- Provide a multidisciplinary approach to care.
- Ensure that needs and expectations of the individual are continually met.
- We act with honesty, integrity and trust
- We are committed to quality improvements.
- Ensure that there is an on-going interaction with health care service organizations and government provincial bodies through the provision of community outreach services.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the Maritime Odd Fellows Home is reflective of its mission in that it fosters the rights of the residents and is based on the belief that:
- Everyone who lives in the Home and those we serve in the community, deserve the best possible care, as well as the freedom and encouragement to communicate their needs and wants, regardless of their personal, social or economic status;
- Care will be provided in a home-like setting by responsible, qualified, caring employees. This will promote a sense of well-being, comfort and overall acceptance by the residents of their "new home" and its family/community atmosphere;
- Resident's care will be individualized using a holistic approach and when appropriate, palliative care principles, to meet the needs of the residents while maintaining and/or encouraging their independence as much as possible;
- The total needs of the residents are administered through an interdisciplinary team approach, each department responsible for a specific area of resident care but all working together for the common goal of meeting the resident's needs;
- The residents's welfare is top priority, and all employee actions reflect this belief;
- In keeping with the commitment to resident care, employees demonstrate a keen interest in learning new skills and improving existing ones through continuing educational programs such as participation in in-services and the various home committees;
- Everyone has a purpose in life and a potential for growth.
Residents' Rights and Responsibilities
As a resident of the Home, you are entitled to and given the opportunity to express your need for the following: dignity, privacy, independence, personal aspirations, a safe environment, opportunities for social interactions, respect for cultural preferences and beliefs, involvement in decisions concerning your care, access to information, confidentiality, choice of religion, and family or staff to advocate on your behalf.
To provide our residents with a safe and comfortable home, the facility has certain policies which residents must abide by:
- No smoking in the building or on the grounds.
- Consumption of alcohol is only permitted at social events or for medicinal purposes as ordered by your physician
- Medications are to be kept at the nursing station, not in your room and distributed by nursing staff as directed by your prescribing medical staff..
- Any unwarranted actions directed towards staff or other residents, which causes undue distress will not be tolerated.
- Residents are expected to respect the rights and personal belongings of other residents and staff.
- Any personal electrical items (i.e. hair dryer) must first be checked with our maintenance department for compliance with the Canadian Standards Association prior to their use.
